BIVIRKNINGER (Side Effects) brings together hundreds of digital drawings created by the artist Svend Sømod over the past 13 years. Some of the drawings have functioned as studies for later physical works, while others exist as purely geometric explorations.
BIVIRKNINGER puts the viewer’s visual perceptual apparatus to the test. The underlying structures of certain motifs are nearly impossible to dissect, while the overall impression remains immediate and harmonious. Other pages cut directly into the viewer’s visual cortex.
Each page is a collage of works. The layout shifts radically from one page to the next and is likewise grounded in mathematical systems, forming a maelstrom of perceptual overload.
Sømod’s art can be understood as an investigation into how the brain processes and responds to patterns, repetition, and complex systems. His practice does not seek to simplify, but rather to open up to the intense, often overwhelming beauty that emerges at the intersection of human consciousness and machine-calculated forms.
